Specialization

  1. Main field: environmental geochemistry and biogeochemistry, environmental analysis, isotope geochemistry, sedimentary petrology;
  2. Other fields: environmental geology, mineral deposit geology, environmental toxicology;
  3. Current research interest: trace element and organic geochemistry, biogeochemistry, stable isotope geochemistry (in waters, soils and plant bioindicators), environment sample analysis.

Scope of investigations

The scope of investigations performed by the scientific staff encompasses:

  1. Mobility and interactions of trace elements and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, and the contribution of their natural and/or anthropogenic sources to local and regional geochemical and biogeochemical cycles (Z.M. Migaszewski, A. Gałuszka).
  2. Establishment of baseline concentration ranges of potentially toxic trace elements and organic compounds (Z.M. Migaszewski, A. Gałuszka, S. Dołęgowska, A. Michalik).
  3. Release of potential toxicants (geotoxins) from rocks to the environment (geoavailability) as a function of their lithologic and mineralogic composition, including acid rock/mine drainage (Z.M. Migaszewski, A. Gałuszka, S. Dołęgowska).
  4. Hydrogeochemistry of spring waters in the Holy Cross Mountains (A. Michalik, Z.M. Migaszewski).
  5. Biomonitoring of environment quality with the use of mosses, lichens and Scots pine (S. Dołęgowska, Z.M. Migaszewski, A. Gałuszka).
